Seven Steps to Choosing a Domain Name for Your Dental Practice

Aug 2nd, 2010 | Category: Ideas to Market Your Dental Practice
  1. Select a name that is short but makes sense. Short names tend to be more search-engine friendly.
  2. Avoid spam terms in your Web site address, such as “cheap” or “free.”
  3. Try to make your name as memorable as possible. Obscure domain names are difficult to remember. Make it easy for your patients and referring dentists and physicians to remember.
  4. Avoid hyphens in your domain. They don’t look good, and some search engines may not handle them well.
  5. Use .com extensions only. Avoid .biz, .us and .info domains. They don’t look professional.
  6. Once you choose a domain name with a .com extension, register all available extensions. This will minimize the risk of a cybersquatter trying to register your domain with a different extension, which could confuse your current and prospective dental patients.
  7. Even if you do not intend to build a Web site immediately, register your domain as quickly as possible. A domain name available today may be gone when you are ready to use it. There is no need to take that risk.
